Swinging Success for PGA HOPE
Maroon PR handled local media relations for PGA HOPE’S Golf and Wellness Week in 2022 and 2023, garnering media attention for the Foundation’s mission to enhance the physical, mental, social and emotional well-being of Veterans and Active Duty Military through the game of golf.
PGA HOPE is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America. PGA HOPE is a rehabilitative golf program for Veterans and Active-duty Military, that enhances their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.
Through a longstanding partnership between PGA REACH and Congressional Country Club, each year, PGA Hope hosts National Golf and Wellness Week in Washington, D.C. The initiative brings together a group of 20 Veterans and two Squad leaders, all graduates of their local PGA HOPE programs, to participate in an immersive four-day event that includes advanced golf instruction and wellness training. The week culminates with a golf outing at Congressional, where the Veterans play alongside PGA Professionals for a day of golf and camaraderie.
Maroon PR has handled local media relations for Golf and Wellness Week in 2022 and 2023, with the goal of securing media attention that positions the game of golf as a therapeutic form of rehabilitation and highlights the stories of veterans whose lives had been positively impacted by the PGA HOPE program.
Our approach to media relations is two-fold, pitching advance stories and on-site interview opportunities on the morning of the Day of HOPE golf outing to local print, online, and broadcast outlets. Our pitch strategy is always focused on the Veterans’ stories – their military journey and the impact PGA Hope has had on their lives.
Each year we have had great success with our media relations campaign, securing meaningful stories in major Washington D.C. based outlets including The Washington Post and WTOP Radio. In 2023, we also successfully placed a mention in Fox News through our ability to tap into PGA Hope advocate, Bret Baier and coverage in multiple outlets across the nation through the NBC bureau’s coverage.
