During Hunger Action Month, Maroon PR (MPR) supported the Maryland Food Bank (MFB) in raising awareness about food insecurity and the critical role the organization plays in providing food and resources to Marylanders facing hunger. Through a strategic mix of earned, owned, and paid media – including social media advertising and an influencer campaign – MPR helped amplify the Food Bank’s mission across multiple platforms and audiences, with the goal of inspiring real action to help end hunger in Maryland.

On the earned media front, MPR identified timely opportunities to showcase MFB’s work, programs and impact while connecting the organization to the broader conversation around hunger and food insecurity. The team also secured broadcast opportunities, including a Good Morning Maryland shoutout on WMAR, giving MFB an opportunity to reach viewers with an important Hunger Action Month message. In addition, MPR engaged local television media partners by inviting stations to take part in volunteer shifts at the Food Bank, creating opportunities for reporters and staff to experience MFB’s mission firsthand. FOX45 and WJZ both rolled up their sleeves to volunteer this September, resulting in meaningful employee engagement and earned media coverage that further expanded the reach of Hunger Action Month messaging.

MPR also supported MFB’s owned media efforts by creating and capturing content designed to engage audiences across the Food Bank’s social channels. In-house Graphic designer Sarah Hill created engaging animations and graphics that brought Hunger Action Month messaging to life across MFB’s social channels. This was paired with inspiring video content, highlighting the importance of Hunger Action Month and the faces behind the initiatives.
Influencer engagement added another layer to the campaign, connecting MFB’s mission with local creators and community voices, such as Ryan Ripken, Lisa Summers and Simone Phillips, who used their unique voices and perspectives to introduce the Food Bank’s work to their own engaged audiences. By combining trusted third-party voices with earned media and MFB’s owned channels, MPR helped create a broader, more integrated approach to telling the story of hunger in Maryland and the United States, and encouraging greater awareness and action throughout Hunger Action Month
