In light of COVID-19’s ongoing toll on the restaurant community, Maroon PR worked with The Restaurant Association of Maryland Education Foundation (RAMEF) to create positive and uplifting news within the industry.
On April 14, the very first “Brunch Battle” was hosted in Columbia, Maryland. Students from around the state involved in Maryland’s Prostart program competed against one another with the help of professional chef mentors. Prostart is a nationwide organization that educates students by combining culinary and industry techniques with real-world management knowledge. In an effort to show our support for the Restaurant Association of Maryland and young culinary prospects, prizes of cash as well as an opportunity for the chef to cook for Team Maryland at the 2021 World Food Championships were awarded.
Their fun yet competitive Iron Chef-style culinary event was a huge success for the RAM community. Following necessary COVID-19 guidelines, the competition was attended in-person as well as through a livestream service. Our team is thrilled with the event’s outcome and wish first-place chef, Dan Wecker at Elkridge Furnace Inn, luck as he advances to the next round. As for student-chef Gillian, there is no telling what this young woman’s culinary future holds, as she created an impeccable brunch dish in under an hour- an apple pecan waffle with bacon and sweet potato hash.
Maroon PR’s account team worked to garner media coverage of this initiative through pre-event pitches that focused on the students and chef pairings, and also worked to secure on-site media coverage during the event.
